LoziLu, a national women's filthy 5k festival for all athletic abilities to love, will be coming to Milwaukee, WI on Saturday June 29th!
Exhilarating obstacles, music, mud & amazing after-party. It's all to help kiddos with cancer have a future of fun. It is led by two athletically minded couples from Madison aiming to show the world how fitness is both fun and rewarding. Their romantic relationships are rooted in fitness; the University of Wisconsin Triathlon Team played matchmaker for them both, and that is also where they met Mike McLean, Eric's older brother. As many of you know, Eric had been battling leukemia since 2003 and after 9 difficult years of fighting, Eric sadly passed away last summer. Eric's family founded L.I.F.E., the Leukemia Ironman Fundraiser for Eric - a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to helping other young adults around the country battling cancer like Eric. Lozilu donates a portion of each race towards the L.I.F.E. organization. LoziLu's mission is to 1.) spread happiness, health and fitness throughout the world by leveraging the familial influence of women, and 2.) to support leukemia & lymphoma research to find a cure for blood cancers while helping cancer patients live happier lives.
On September 8th, 2013, Eric's older brother plans to return to Madison for his 6th Ironman Wisconsin. It is surely going to be a day filled with emotion, as he has not come back to the Ironman since that tearful finish in 2010 (pictured above). Though he won't physically be out there following him around with the family, supporting him all along the race, he will definitely be out there in spirit. His cheers will forever echo all along that course.
Mike is fundraising money for L.I.F.E. to be given towards a leukemia research study at the McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research that has been dedicated to Eric. The study is testing a novel combo therapy for leukemia with preliminary results showing that it could provide long-term disease free survival.
